Psyched! Records proudly welcomes MENGERS, the art-punk power trio from Mexico CityMexico, and announces “Azotacalles”—out today—the second single from their forthcoming album Flavio, due in October. Clocking in just under two minutes, “Azotacalles” is a concentrated blast of noise and tension: furious yet deliberately refined. Where “Z” flirted with dance-punk pulse and a frenetic groove, “Azotacalles” flips the script toward something harsher, more industrial, and unmistakably punk. The distortion is surgical, not bludgeoning; dynamics snap tight; each hit lands like concrete under pressure. Echoes of ’90s/early-2000s noise rock—think scalpel-sharp intensity and cavernous low end—surface in the grit, but the heartbeat is distinctly local, channeling daily frustration into collapse or resistance. It isn’t a teaser; it’s a declaration that MENGERS aren’t surviving the noise—they’re weaponizing it.

Formed by brothers Carlos Calderón (guitar) and Pablo Calderón (drums) with longtime friend Mauricio Suárez (bass), MENGERS have honed a sound built on whip-tight interplay, serrated textures, and hooks that cut at the exact moment they catch. Their breakthrough album GOLLY (2021) made clear what the trio could do—fuzz-sheathed guitars, coiled rhythms, and a panoramic feel for the city’s churn—vaulting them to the forefront of the scene. Its follow-up, i/O (2022), hit an even higher gear: subtler negative space, harder edges, and a sharpened sense of narrative momentum. National press placed both records atop year-end lists—Indie Rocks!, Me Hace Ruido, and Universo Disonante among them—while international roundups in Rolling Stone and Remezcla amplified the signal across the United States.

On Flavio, recorded with producer Hugo Quezada at Progreso Nacional in Mexico CityMENGERS push further into both noise and melody. Built from the ground up with bass and drums, the songs were then layered with guitars and synths until each track took on its own personality—lean, volatile, and unmistakably theirs. Lyrically, the album interrogates societal rigidity, the futility of escape from systemic control, surveillance, personal anxiety, and generational inertia—subjects distilled with the same precision the band brings to tone and structure. “Azotacalles” embodies that stance: momentum doesn’t flow; it crashes, each measure fracturing like pavement under stress.

Beyond the studio, MENGERS have carried this intensity onto major stages. They’ve toured both coasts of the United States, appeared at Ruido Fest in Chicago and at Hipnosis in Mexico City, and contributed a session to KEXP’s Latin American culture celebration, Aquí y Ahora—performances that underline a core truth about the band: the records are a map; the stage is the territory.

With “Azotacalles” out today via Psyched! Records, the path to Flavio is set. Expect specialty vinyl, focused radio campaigns, and shows that translate the record’s calculated volatility into visceral release. Welcome MENGERS to the roster—precision, propulsion, and the fearless art of turning noise into impact.
